JVC

Established in 1927, JVC began life as The Japanese Victor Company which manufactured phonographs (the ‘Victor Talking Machine) and records. The company expanded its production over the next century to include televisions, radios, music systems, video cameras, and other electronic accessories.

JVC famously owns the proprietary VHS tape recording format, which overcame Betamax in the race for supremacy in the rapidly burgeoning home video market in the 1980s. JVC merged with Kenwood in 2008 to form JVC Kenwood Holdings.
