Roku

Roku is an American company founded in 2002 by Anthony Wood and based in Los Gatos, California. The word ‘Roku’, meaning ‘six’ in Japanese, was chosen to represent the fact that this is the sixth company founded by Anthony Wood. Roku builds the Roku Streaming Players, a device that enables clients to access a variety of streaming services on their television sets.

It became a publicly traded company in 2017 and also licenses its technology and software to other companies. In 2017, Roku launched its advertising service, allowing advertisers to target Roku users. Also in 2017, the company launched its own TV channel.
